Welcome to The Lead Paint Institute

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “lead poisoning is one of the most common and preventable pediatric health problems in the United States.” In 1994, 1.7 million  young children or about 8.9% of preschoolers had high levels of lead in their blood. Currently, 1 out of 23 or 4.3% of all children in the United States have lead poisoning.*

Children and adults can suffer from lead poisoning. A person can be poisoned through:

  • lead paint in older homes
  • lead dust in commercial facilities or contaminated homes
  • lead paint from toys, ceramics, or other objects used in hobbies or at work

Perhaps you are a parent who wants to find out if your child has been poisoned by lead. Perhaps you are a teacher who wants to know how to protect her students from lead poisoning. Maybe you work in an environment that contains lead and you want to find out how to keep you and your family safe. You could be a landlord of an older house who wants to know how to protect your tenants from lead poisoning or you may be a tenant in an older home who wants to know their rights when it comes to lead poisoning.
